The default reaction to many things that happen in our world is fear. We can see that being played out in the hoarding mentality that empties store shelves of basics, such as toilet paper. We can see it in the headlines that speak of increased gun sales. We might wonder what's coming next!
But, God's people are called to be God's people in the midst of a troubled world. The promise is not that everything will be OK, but that God is with us even as we navigate stormy seas. Further, as God's people, we have a responsibility to bear witness to God's loving presence in the ways that we live in the midst of this pandemic. Fear should not be our default. Seeking God's loving presence and commitment to God's beloved world and its people should. We live by faith -- faith that God is not absent and faith that whatever happens in this world, God's final answer is life and love.
